MAINTAINING A COMPETITIVE EDGE

The Midland Performance Golf Academy in partnership with Solihull College is a pathway within our Level 3 Sport Diploma aimed at those with exceptional talent on the green to carve themselves a career within the professional golf circuit. Under the tutelage of experienced golf professionals, based here in Solihull, students who choose to participate will begin to sharpen their abilities and progress their talent, with long term career options open to scholarships abroad, semi-professional and professional golf tournaments and national representation. Men and ladies are encouraged to join, regardless of handicap.

Henry James

An accomplished young athlete, Henry graduated from the Solihull College golf programme in 2012 and has accumulated a number of exceptional accolades from all levels of the amateur golfing infrastructure. Awards include; Winner of the Welsh Boys Championship, Runner-up of the British Boys Amateur Championship, and Worcestershire Boys Matchplay tournament winner two years in a row. His latest and greatest achievement to date was a call up to the Welsh National Team for the 2012/2013 season.

Alex Davies

Alex joined the College in 2008 and excelled with us within the first year of his studies. 2009 proved to be a highly successful year, with Alex winning the British Colleges Sport Golf Championship, coming fourth in the Intercollegiate Tour Players Championship and being awarded runner-up at the Intercollegiate Tour-Midland Region Order of Merit.

Rachel Jennings

Graduating in 2008, Rachel has gone on to achieve a number of great accolades since her time as an apprentice at the College. On her maiden professional circuit tournament, Rachel came 3rd in the Slovak Open in 2011, missing the top spot by a fine margin. In 2010, she represented Great Britain & Ireland in the 36th Curtis Cup held in the USA and before that at the Vagliano Cup in Germany. More recently, Rachel has gone on to earn her card for the Ladies European Tour.

Adam Norman

After undertaking the Golf Apprentice course at Solihull College and graduating in 2006, Adam went on to win the Berkhamstead Open in 2006, beating experienced England Squad member, Ross McGowan in the process. Among his other accolades, Adam has also won the Midland Amateur Order of Merit and gained full playing rights for prestigious Europro Tour, allowing him to compete in golf tournaments across the continent.

APPLYING FOR A COURSE

To enrol on the MPGA, you must be studying as part of our ‘Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences’. If you wish to participate but don’t have the necessary qualifications to do the course initially, there are a number of routes the College offers in order to build up to our Level 3 programme, allowing you to gain access academically.

Monday – All day practice at Forest of Arden Golf Course

Tuesday – Individual self learning and practice.

Wednesday – Competition day supervised by a PGA Professional.

OUR FACILITIES

Solihull College has state-of-the-art health and fitness facilities, available for use to anyone across the campus. These are designed to maintain and enhance the athleticism and fitness levels of all our prospective students, whether in the Academy, on our sports courses or just for those taking part for personal leisure.

The Blossomfield Campus sports hall has a modern, recently refurbished gym, with brand new treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, rowing machines, weights and more, so those wanting to achieve peak physical fitness can do so, on site. The Academy trains all its participants on the 3G astro-turf located next to the sports hall.

The College offers a Student Athlete Scheme in which students will be given access to free gym membership, free physio sessions, free training schemes and free college sports wear. In return for this we expect those in the scheme to attend some open days and apply themselves with role model behaviour for parents and prospective students.

Stuart Bottrill – Stuart is the head coach of Shirley Golf Club and a well established PGA Professional. Throughout his career, he has mentored aspiring amateur golfers, both professional and elite, all over the West Midlands and Warwickshire. ALISTAIR DAVIES

Recently voted one of ‘Golf World’s Top 100 Coaches’, Alistair is a seasoned, first-class mentor who has taught professionals on the national and international circuit, working with players who have represented outfits like the South West Wales Academy, Birmingham University and Great Britain and Ireland.
