LADIES FOOTBALL ACADEMY

Ladies Academy

The ladies football academy is run in partnership with Birmingham City Ladies FC and has been running since 2012. The academy has produced many successful players who have gone on to represent their country as well as top clubs around the country.

Students complete their academic studies each morning and some afternoons at the College and then train on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Wednesday’s are dedicated to matches with other colleges.

Previous Academy Players

Rebecca Lloyd

Rebecca studied Sport & Exercise Science at the College and came up through the Birmingham City Ladies Centre of Excellence. Rebecca has also represented England in the U17 squad at the Euro Finals and then progressed to play for the U19s at another Euros final. Rebecca is now studying towards her degree at the University of Birmingham to train as a physiotherapist. Rebecca is also still playing for Birmingham City Ladies and involved with the England U19 squad.

Jess Carter

Jess studied sport science at the College whilst training and playing as part of the academy. Jess made her senior debut with Birmingham City Ladies at aged 16 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and contributed to a triumphant win over Arsenal Ladies, this made Jess the youngest Champions League player at that time. Jess has also made her international debut for England U19’s, scoring within 7 minutes against Norway. Jess now features regularly for the U19 squad and Birmingham City Ladies first team.

Ellie Brazil

Ellie quickly progressed within the academy and made her way into the first team at Birmingham City Ladies at aged 16. Ellie has also played in many international competitions for England at both U15 and U17 and most recently has been selected as part of the U17 squad for the FIFA World Cup.

APPLYING FOR A COURSE

When applying for a course at Solihull College & University Centre, you must state on your application that you are interested in applying to join the Football Academy. Upon your accepted academic application, you will be offered a trial, in which the team manager will assess your suitability to join and, if successful, will assign you to the relative squad based on your performance and ability.

OUR FACILITIES

Solihull College & University Centre has state-of-the-art health and fitness facilities, available for use to anyone across the campus. The Blossomfield Campus sports centre has a modern, recently refurbished gym, with brand new treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, rowing machines, weights and more, so those wanting to achieve peak physical fitness can do so on-site. The Academy trains all its participants on the 3G astro-turf located on campus.

For outstanding footballers who have played at county or academy level, we offer a Student Athlete Scheme in which players will be given access to free gym membership, free physio sessions, free training schemes and free college sports wear. In return for this we expect those in the scheme to attend some open days & apply themselves with role model behaviour for parents and prospective students.
